The city of Key West recently welcomed Patrick Wright back to city hall as director of growth management.

Wright is an experienced planner with expertise in land use throughout the Florida Keys. Since 2008, his planning career has spanned both the public and private sectors in Key West and Monroe County.

Most recently, Wright served overseas with the U.S. Department of Defense as a community planner based in Naples, Italy, supporting the Europe, Africa and Central Commands. In this role, he led international, interdisciplinary teams on planning and engineering studies and military construction and infrastructure projects across regions stretching from the High North to the Middle East.

Wright’s federal service also includes work with the U.S. Navy at Naval Air Station Key West, where he served as an installation planner. Prior to his federal work, he was the planning director for the city of Key West, having held nearly every position in the planning department, starting as a college intern. His private sector experience includes years as a land use planning consultant in Key West and Monroe County, during which time he also served on the city’s Historic Architecture Review Commission.

Now returning to the community he called home for 14 years, Wright brings institutional knowledge and a strong understanding of local planning and development.
