Marathon traveled to Key West on Dec. 13 to compete in a girls weightlifting meet. Marathon won the Olympic event 53-30 and the traditional event 59-25. The Fins had six double winners in Ella Dunn (101 pounds), Ashley Rasmussen (110), Sierra Earnhardt (119), Mikkel Ross (129), Justice Lee (183) and Sabrina Schofield (199). Marathon’s Ava Merryman (traditional) and Key West’s Shylo Sanchez (Olympic) split the wins in the 139-lb. weight class. Double winners for the home team were Dazmine Jenkins (154), Kaylee Matas (169) and Claire Boysen (unlimited).

Ross and Lee continue to dominate a talented field of athletes. Lee set a new personal best in the snatch, lifting 140 pounds. Ross set three personal records at the event, including a 140-pound snatch lift, 165-pound clean and jerk and a 165-pound bench, nearly 135% of her body weight.

Coral Shores headed on the road on Dec. 13, participating in a quad-meet hosted by Gulliver Prep. The Lady ’Canes won both events with double wins from Mallory Hughes (101 pounds), Kali Gomer (129), Madison Tillman (154) and Sydney Eysenbach (unlimited). Rachel Rusch picked up a win in the traditional event at the 110-pound classification.

Marathon and Coral Shores, classified as 1A, will participate in their district meet on Jan. 27. Key West will attend the 2A meet on Jan. 25.
