ONE KILLED, THREE INJURED IN KEY LARGO BOAT CRASH

A boat crash in Key Largo claimed the life of a North Carolina woman on Dec. 27.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), officers were dispatched to a boating accident at Buttonwood Sound. Preliminary information indicates a 21-foot motorboat with four occupants on board struck an anchored sailboat while traveling through the Sound.

All four occupants were ejected as a result of the crash; three people were recovered from the water with injuries. After a multi-agency search by FWC, U.S. Coast Guard, National Park Service and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the fourth person, Sydney Cole, 24, of North Carolina, was recovered from the water deceased. The names of the injured weren’t released; the severity of their injuries weren’t provided.

FWC said an investigation continues into the boat crash.
