PILOT UNINJURED IN SEAPLANE CRASH OFF DRY TORTUGAS

A boat was about 400 yards from the site of the April 11 seaplane crash and captured photos and a video. Boater Dennis Ridderbush reported on Facebook that the pilot had exited the aircraft safely and no passengers were on board. DENNIS RIDDERBUSH/Facebook

The pilot of a seaplane that crashed off Dry Tortugas National Park the morning of April 11 was not injured in the incident, and no passengers were on board at the time, said Peter Green of Key West Seaplane Adventures.

“The pilot was transported to Lower Keys Medical Center as a precautionary measure. He was evaluated and released shortly thereafter,” Green said. “The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting an investigation. We are cooperating fully and will provide updates when appropriate.”

Green added that recovery efforts are underway for the aircraft, a DHC-3 DeHavilland Turbine Otter Amphibian, which was expected to be brought back to Key West by barge on April 14, weather and sea conditions permitting.
