The British progressive rock band Wishbone Ash has survived — and thrived — for more than 50 years, having pioneered the twin-lead guitar sound in the 1970s that quickly became an industry standard.
Wishbone Ash celebrated the milestone anniversary of their 1972 album Argus, with the release of a multi-format box set in April 2023. They’re on tour playing shows of Argus in its entirety, and the Southernmost City made the list of dates.
On Wednesday, March 13, Wishbone Ash will play the Key West Theater at 8 p.m.
VIP passes are available to meet the band before the show and watch a private performance.
Argus, the group’s third studio album, crushed it in their native Britain and rock critics consider it a masterpiece.
Comic fantasy author Kyle A. Massa called Wishbone Ash “the best band you’ve never heard of,” in a 2014 essay. While searching YouTube for obscure rock bands from the 60s and 70s, Massa was intrigued by the band’s name and pushed play on Argus.
“Forty-five minutes later, I was blown away,” Massa wrote. “These guys absolutely rock.”
Argus still rings out with fan favorites like “Blowin’ Free,” and classics “The King Will Come,” “Warrior,” and “Throw Down the Sword.” They’re all fueled by the intuitive twin-lead guitar flourishes from Andy Powell and Ted Turner.
