The honorees of this year’s Women of Integrity and Men of Valor awards presented by Samuel’s House.
Samuel’s House recognizes locals who make a difference
The 2017 Women of Integrity and Men of Valor are Ed Swift, Peary Fowler, Michael Knowles, Ann Spagnolo and Charlene Nguyen, Rick Lopez, Joyce Benevides, Elena Spottswood, Sue Barroso, Tom Callahan, and Bruce Boros.
They were honored April 6 at the annual event hosted by Samuel’s House. Samuel’s House provides housing and supportive services to homeless women and intact families to aid them in becoming self-sufficient.

Honoree Heather Carruthers, right, with wife Coleen Fitzsimmons and Kimber Tracy at the event. “I love everything this community has given me,” the county commissioner said in her speech. “But, the real people we need to thank are the ones who give tirelessly, like the caseworkers and those on the front lines every day.”
Dr. Boros is honored at the event. He is seen here with his family Christina, daughter-in-law Gabi, son Aaron and grandson Emmett. Friend Michael Halpern said, “He always fights for the very best medical care for this community and its patients.”
Hanna Hernandez, mother of four, is now in a good place with her family because of Samuel’s House. “I knew we found a home when we were at Samuel’s House,” said her son Julian. “Friends became family, and they provided us with a place to sleep and play.”
