There may not be a scarier place to roam than on Beach Street this Halloween.
This Saturday evening, the “Nightmare on Beach Street” returns as the McNew family prepares to welcome community members to their residence at 176 Beach Road for a live-action horror experience. Josh McNew, his wife, Jamie, kids and neighbors have been hard at work to bring a mini Universal Halloween Horror Nights to Tavernier.
“Nobody goes to that side of the bridge to trick-or-treat, so it’s a way to get people’s attention over here,” Josh said.
“We started the parties back in 2021,” Jamie said. “It was a great way to give back to the community and help people forget about Covid and the crazy politics. Halloween is very special because it gives you the opportunity to dress up as your favorite characters and it brings back the magic of our childhood. And it brings magic to our children.”
Free to the community, the scary experience includes the likes of Jason from “Friday the 13th” Michael Myers from “Halloween,” Art the Terrifier, three-headed wolves, giant skeletons and other frightful monsters.

With the scares also come some drinks courtesy of Klara McGarry’s The Elite Label, and a circus tent with cotton candy, popcorn and Halloween-themed treats.
“There is good music, crazy lights, lots of monsters and good company. And sometimes at the very end of the night, everyone jumps in the pool with all their costumes,” Jamie said.
The McNews have also received some assistance in the way of scrap materials from Lindholm Roofing to build. Jamie said Samantha and Mark Berta from Sea Swivel also donated towards the party.”
“The best part about this party is not only that it’s become a great place for our community and families to celebrate this fun holiday, but it’s absolutely free,” Jamie said.
The scary-good times over the years have attracted hundreds. Dare to be scared this Halloween with the “Nightmare on Beach Street” opening at 7:30 p.m. and ending at 12:30 p.m.
