On Wednesday, Feb. 12, the Art Guild of the Purple Isles (AGPI) will open its 59th annual Judged Art Show at the Florida Keys History & Discovery Center’s second floor at 82100 Overseas Highway in Islamorada.

Christine and David O’Neill are the show chairs. The show features numerous original artworks in nine different mediums, many of which are available for purchase.

“Each Judged Show features new original art from its members that has not been in any other show,” said David Bader, AGPI president. “Thus, each show presents a fresh display for the viewer. We expect between 40 and 50 different artists to exhibit.”

‘Golden Everglades’ by Kelly Walkotten. The digital art won the People’s Choice and Cris Sandifer awards at last year’s show.

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the AGPI will hold a reception and awards ceremony for its members; an opening for the public will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

“This is the only judged show of the guild,” Christine O’Neill said. “Also, it’s a very diverse  show with no defined theme. Many awards are presented during the show. There is a People’s Choice award, and a special one is chosen just by the members of the AGPI. This piece of art or person should exemplify helping other artists and doing nice art themselves. It’s called the Cris Sandifer Award.”

‘Flower Girls of Havana’ by Diane Smith. The mixed media artwork won first place in last year’s Art Guild of the Purple Isles Judged Art Show.

“I like the wide variety of subjects, mediums and painting styles on display,” Bader said. “There is something for everyone’s taste in art.”

The art show is free and open to the public weekly, Tuesday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show closes March 30. Visit agpi.com for more information.
