Census reps to answer questions

Stand up and be counted

Monroe County will host representatives from the U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 30 and 31, to provide information about the upcoming 2020 Census.

The meetings will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan 30 at the Harvey Government Center in Key West. The Marathon meeting will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at the Marathon Government Center; and at 3 p.m., a meeting will be held in Key Largo at the Murray Nelson Government Center.

After providing information about the census process, privacy of your data and more, the representatives will hold an open question-and-answer session with the public. Monroe County encourages anyone who would like to assist in the census effort or those with questions or concerns to attend and find out more.

The 2020 census will count every person living in Monroe County, the United States, and U.S. territories. The census is conducted every 10 years by the U.S. Census Bureau, a nonpartisan government agency. The results determine congressional representation and federal funding for states and communities, including Monroe County.

By April 1, 2020, Monroe County households will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census and residents will have three options to respond – online, phone or by mail.
