
Marathon had a rough start in softball last week but finished strong, falling to Miami Country Day March 10 in a mercy-rule road loss. Maeve Merryman registered a single and double and Shaina Robinson had a single and an RBI in the 11-1 defeat.
Things were brighter the following day as the Lady Fins hit the road again, this time to face the Royal Lions of Immaculata-La Salle. The Dolphins came away with the mercy-rule win this time, defeating the Lions 16-3 in four innings. Elena Eubank and Madelyn Thornton both homered in the win, with Eubank logging three hits and four RBIs. Thornton had two of each. Shaina Robinson also had two hits while Shynell McGuire and Sara Robinson each had a base hit. The Fins stole a total of 10 bases to speed things along, and Robinson earned the win pitching for the Dolphins, striking out six batters in her four innings in the circle.
Key West played the formidable Panthers of Eustis on March 11 and 12. The defending state champs, currently ranked second in 4A, shut out the Conchs in game one, allowing just three hits from Key West’s typically busy bats. Lilee Gage doubled and Aaliyah McLeod and Alexa Condella singled in the 4-0 loss.

The following day, Key West gave Eustis a run for their money, proving that the Conchs can hang with any opponent in the state. Key West came within two runs, the closest to taking down the Panthers of any opponent this year. The 9-7 loss for Key West left Eustis’ record unblemished, but Vera Rodger racked up three hits including a double, Lucy Katz had a double and a triple, McLeod had a single and double and Kaleaya Dickerson added two base hits for the Conchs.
Coral Shores slipped to 1-3 after a loss at Somerset South Homestead on March 13. The Hurricanes lost 18-8 to their mainland Hurricane counterparts despite amassing 11 hits. Mira Jones was responsible for three of those hits, with one being a triple, to lead the hitting for the Lady ’Canes. Lily Underwood added two hits to the team total. Regular season games come to a close April 23, with district tournaments starting the following week.
