Developers seeking to build a grocery store, liquor store and workforce housing in Tavernier will hold a community meeting on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Murray Nelson Government Center in Key Largo.

Developers with Blackstone Group — Tavernier 925 LLC are seeking a change to county land development code to build a structure with up to 58,500 square feet of nonresidential floor area at the former concrete facility located near MM 92.5. Plans show a 58,454-square-foot supermarket and liquor store. Some 86 workforce housing units are also in the plans.

Monroe county commissioners are expected to take up a pair of requests, one to amend the land use district map and the other to change county land development regulations to create a Tavernier Key Commercial Overlay District, during a Sept. 20 meeting in Key Largo.

Concerned members of the community are encouraged to attend. The public will have the chance to ask questions and share concerns.
