While the state Department of Education has said that all Florida schools will be closed through May 1, that doesn’t mean kids are off the hook. Some charter school students have already started online schooling in the Keys, and all other students, kindergarten through 12th grade, were to start their digital adventure on April 1.
To prepare, Monroe County School District has passed out Chromebooks. In Key West, officials handed out at least 300 devices, prioritizing them for households without computers or tablets.
How each school in the Keys handles the digital learning differs. The primary platforms seem to be Canvas and Google Classroom. Both are available through Classlink. Students will receive additional information from their individual teacher or teachers. Students should click on lauchpad.classlink.com/mcsd.
Comcast is making free internet service available to Keys families without a connection. Those without internet service may call the school’s technology support hotline at 305-289-2480 Ext. 55314 for assistance.
