An expert in coral reproduction will discuss science’s role in successful restoration of the reef, as the next presentation by the Keys History & Discovery Center.

Hanna Koch of Mote Marine Laboratory will present “(Coral) Baby Boom: Sexual Reproduction’s Role in Reef Restoration,” a virtual lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Coral reproduction is failing in the wild and scientists have taken over the process to ensure successful restoration of the next generation of coral on the reef.

Koch, a coral reproduction scientist and postdoctoral research fellow, will take attendees through the complexity of coral reproduction with an overview of the 2020 coral spawning season, which resulted in breakthrough discoveries and new hope for the future of the reefs. The lecture is free for members and $5 for non-members. Advance registration is required at www.keyslectures.com/lectures. The virtual program utilizes GoToWebinar. More information about the platform is at www.keysdiscovery.com/virtual-platforms.
