Siesta Motel opens its doors

Local Marathon motel owners are offering rooms to frontline medical personnel free of charge. CONTRIBUTED

Frank Catchpole and his partner Chris Kessler were inspired by the Four Seasons hotel in New York City. The landmark hotel opened its doors, free of charge, to medical personnel actively involved in fighting COVID-19’s devastating surge. Now the two Marathon men are doing the same with Siesta Motel in Marathon.

“We thought, ‘Well, we’re not the Four Seasons, but we can certainly do the same,’” Catchpole said.

The rooms are free to frontline medical personnel who don’t want to face a long commute, or want to be physically separated from their friends and families so as to reduce the spread of the virus.

Siesta Motel is a retro mom-and-pop place in the center of Marathon. With tropical palms and cheery purple accents, it stands out at its location across from the Marathon airport.  It features 10 units with an extra emphasis on cleanliness.

“That’s something that we pride ourselves on,” Catchpole said. “Our housekeepers are going above and beyond what the CDC is recommending.”For more information, visit, siestamotel.net, stop by the motel at 7425 Overseas Highway, or call 305-743-5671.
