Hawks Cay Resort closed out 2025 – and began the new year – by making the holidays much brighter for two Middle Keys nonprofits, announcing donations totaling $30,000 to support affordable children’s medical and dental care along with the performing arts.

On Dec. 23, the resort presented a $10,000 check to Keys AHEC, a critical provider of medical and dental care for Keys students through on-site clinics. The donation comes at a critical juncture, as 2025 cuts to state and county funding slashed the budget of the nonprofit that provided a combined 10,111 visits for patients during the 2024-25 school year.

“We appreciate the generosity of the Hawks Cay family in supporting children’s medical and dental health in the Florida Keys,” said AHEC CEO Michael Cunningham. “This donation helps us keep our promise ensuring that our working families will have access to medical and dental care for their children.”

With the new year just five days old, the resort presented a second check, for $20,000 to Marathon Community Theatre, closing a crucial gap as the nonprofit performing arts center works to pay off a required $300,000 roof replacement.

“This is an incredibly generous donation that helps ensure MCT will continue as the arts and cultural hub of the Middle Keys for years to come,” said general manager Lisa Campanelli. “The words ‘thank you’ simply aren’t enough.”

Both awards follow a November gift of $10,000 to Keys Area Interdenominational Resources (KAIR), paving the way for gifts and food for Marathon families throughout the holiday season.

“I am in awe of Hawks Cay Resort’s continued support of our Middle Keys and Marathon community,” said Marathon Chamber of Commerce CEO Daniel Samess, who presented the check to the community theater along with Hawks Cay general manager Reggie Cooper. “Recently they have supported our local food bank (KAIR), health care provider (AHEC), and now our community theater that provides so much culture and joy to locals and visitors alike. As one of our prestigious executive chamber members, we are so proud of Hawks Cay Resort and their leadership team.”
