A rotating parade of kids and parents – some practically “tailgating” the event on the side of U.S. 1 – took over the fields at Stanley Switlik Elementary School on Nov. 6 and 7 for some stiff competition in the school’s annual jog-a-thon. A Switlik staple for more than 30 years, the annual fundraiser nets tens of thousands of dollars each year to be used for classroom supplies and field trip expenses, all while promoting physical activity and giving youngsters with a competitive edge a moment to shine. With their preliminary 20-minute opening sessions now complete – monitored closely by Switlik staff and even a video review – runners with the highest lap totals will move on to a final “Run Off” on Friday, Nov. 17 to determine the school’s fastest racers and classes.
