ISLAMORADA’S HISTORY OF DIVING MUSEUM PROVIDES FREE ADMISSION FOR THE MILITARY

The History of Diving Museum in Islamorada will honor and thank those serving in the military on Armed Forces Day.

The museum will hold complimentary guided tours included with paid admission tickets on Saturday, May 17 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. This date also marks the beginning of the 2025 Blue Star Museums program, which offers free admission to active-duty military and up to five members of their family.

Blue Star Museums is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, in collaboration with the Department of Defense and museums across America, offering free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families, including National Guard, Reserve, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps and NOAA Commissioned Corps. The program begins on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 17 and ends on Labor Day, Sept. 1.

Saturday’s guided tours will offer an in-depth look at the museum’s exhibits, with special focus given to the military history of diving. Learn how scuba got its start in the 1800s and how it developed during World War II, how salvage divers worked to retrieve sunken ships and submarines from the seafloor, and much more.

The History of Diving Museum is located at MM 83, bayside, in Islamorada. Its exhibits cover more than 4,000 years of “the quest to explore under the sea.” The museum has 14 core exhibits plus two annual limited-time featured exhibits as well as a museum store.
