KEY WEST BLAZE ON ASHE STREET BURNED HOT & FAST

Social media erupted Wednesday evening as sirens wailed through Key West, cutting through the thick black smoke that was visible to boaters miles away.

Reports from city officials said the home at 620 Ashe St. was empty when the fire started, and there were no injuries.

The cause is still being investigated but does not look to be suspicious, officials reported on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Property records state the home has been owned by the Douglas Koch Living Trust, which is based in St. Louis, since April 2019.

The home, valued at $1.6 million, does not have a Homestead Exemption, which means it is not the owners’ primary residence.

The two-story home with an elevated gulfportpharmacy.com foundation was built in 1938.

No further information was available as of presstime Wednesday, but visit keysweekly.com for updates.
