A Key West man was arrested on Jan. 3 after he allegedly struck another man with bags filled with beer bottles.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to 15th Street in Marathon around 5 p.m. for the report of a battery. A 61-year-old victim told deputies he was struck in the head and forearms by 56-year-old David Burnell Ryan with three full, aluminum beer bottles in a plastic bag.

The sheriff’s office said security footage corroborated the victim’s story. Ryan was found at a nearby bus stop. Deputies say he confessed to the battery and was taken to jail. He faces one felony count of aggravated battery.
