Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg on Thursday promoted Lt. Kathleen Ream to the rank of Captain, an honorary signifying her last day with the department after 25 years of service.
Capt. Ream joined the Key West Police Department in 1995. Her interest in law enforcement began in 1991 when she became an auxiliary officer, which inspired her to attend the police academy. She was promoted to sergeant in 1999 and named the director of training. In 2003 she was promoted to lieutenant. She attended the FBI National Academy in 2012.
During her 25 years of service, she has served in internal affairs, hiring and recruiting, patrol lieutenant and information services.
Lt. Ream is family-oriented, and an integral part of the Key West community, dedicating her time to numerous volunteer efforts including the Police Athletic League and the Love Fund. During her career, she and her husband, retired Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Sgt Jay Fisher, raised two daughters.
During the ceremony, Jay pinned on Capt. Ream’s new badge. Their daughters Jaimie and Samantha pinned her captain’s bars to her collar.
“It has been an honor to work with Capt. Ream,” said Chief Brandenburg. “She has always been dedicated and professional. We will certainly miss her.”
