David Siegel, president and CEO of Westgate Resorts, and longtime business associate Jim Gissy, have purchased the iconic Hog’s Breath Saloon on Key West’s Duval Street, Westgate Resorts announced in a July 21 press release.
The Hog’s Breath Saloon is known for its lively atmosphere, live music, surprise celebrity appearances (Kenny Chesney has taken the stage a few times), signature cocktails and good food.
“Westgate Resorts recognizes the unique cultural significance of the venue and is committed to preserving its authentic spirit while enhancing the overall guest experience,” the press release states.
“I am honored that Mr. Gissy and Mr. Siegel will continue the tradition of Hog’s Breath in Key West for many years. My late husband would be proud. After 47 years, it’s time to pass the torch. I am so grateful to the staff, especially my twin sister Sheryl, for making Hog’s Breath the beloved institution it is today,” said Sherry Dorminy, longtime owner of Hog’s Breath Saloon.
Initially established in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida in 1976, Hog’s Breath was the brainchild of Jerry Dorminy, who moved it in 1988 to Key West, where it quickly became one of the most popular bars on Duval Street.
“We are honored to continue the long tradition of the Hog’s Breath Saloon as a staple of the Key West area,” buyer Jim Gissy said. “This iconic establishment holds a special place in the hearts of many, and we are dedicated to preserving its unique charm and authenticity. We are committed to ensuring that Hog’s Breath Saloon remains a vibrant hub of entertainment and enjoyment for years to come.” The future is bright for Hog’s Breath Saloon and the Hog’s Breath brand, with expansion plans and discussions already underway, the release states.
