“This is a great example of law enforcement partners working together to solve a difficult case,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “I want to thank our Criminal Investigations Unit for taking the lead and providing justice for this victim.”

The investigation began on Oct. 17, 2025, when the 84-year-old victim alerted the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office that he received a call from an unknown person falsely claiming to work for Bank of America. The suspect, later identified as Vandyke, told the victim there were issues with his account. The victim subsequently provided his personal banking information, which led to the loss of approximately $19,800.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit Detectives worked with multiple banking fraud departments to identify Vandyke as the suspect. Some of the security video evidence obtained show Vandyke accessing ATMs in Miami attempting to withdraw money from an account(s) he set up with the stolen money.

The Miami Police Department Gangs Intelligence Unit confirmed Vandyke is a known criminal gang member with no known legitimate source of income. Vandyke currently has a bond of $75,000.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is working with banking officials to recover the victim’s money.
