After celebrating the opening reception of the “Dive Into Art” featured exhibit, the History of Diving Museum will continue the creative flow with “painting with a purpose” classes through mid-March. The cost to participate in the sessions is $35 for non-museum members and $30 for museum members.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Feb. 8, participants can get ready for Valentine’s Day with a seahorse pair painting. Emily Kovacs, community outreach coordinator, will guide participants as they paint. The Jan. 29 class will go from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., and the Feb. 8 class will be from 3 to 5 p.m.

Continuing the theme of reducing and repurposing waste in the environment, the next painting sessions will involve bringing an empty and clean glass jar, aluminum can, or plastic container to create a new repurposed succulent planter. There will be two sessions: Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 29 at 3 p.m. A $10 donation will be collected to cover the materials for the class. Extra containers will be available.

The third “painting with a purpose” session will be painting one of the most iconic diving helmets, the Mark V. These classes will be on Wednesday, March 4 at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 14 at 3 p.m. The helmet is in celebration of the Museum’s 15-year anniversary and will close out the “Dive Into Art” exhibit.

To sign up for any of the painting sessions, call the museum at 305-664-9737 or email Kovacs at programs@divingmuseum.org.  Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of ability. A minimum of eight registered people will be required for the class to take place. The Dive Into Art exhibit is on display through March 18.
