An internationally-acclaimed pianist is set to perform in the Upper and Middle Keys next week.
In a pair of Rising Star Concerts at Marathon and Coral Shores High Schools, the Florida Keys Concert Association will host Canadian pianist Sophia Liu. The concerts, sponsored by the History of Diving Museum and the Jim Platt estate, will take place Feb. 16 in Marathon and the following night in Tavernier. Both concerts start at 7:30 p.m.
At just 17, Sophia Liu has already captured the attention of audiences and critics around the world. Known for her remarkable technical command and poetic musical expression, Liu has been praised for her clarity, refinement and emotional depth at the keyboard.
Born in Shanghai, China, Sophia began piano lessons at age 4. At 7, she moved with her family to Montreal to study with pianist Dang Thai Son. Since then, her career has accelerated rapidly. She has earned top prizes in major international competitions and has appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras, including her debut with the Cleveland Orchestra.
Her Florida Keys program includes Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” (arranged by Pletnev), Schubert’s “Impromptus,” selections from Amy Beach’s “Sketches,” and Chopin’s “Andante Spianato” and “Grand Polonaise Brillante.”
Liu’s 2025-26 season includes performances across North America, Europe and Asia, with engagements in Tokyo, Berlin, Venice and Lyon.
The Florida Keys Concert Association invites the community to experience this rare opportunity to hear a world‑class young artist in an intimate local setting.
