Pawsitive Beginnings, a nonprofit fox sanctuary dedicated to animal-assisted therapy and community healing, recently appointed Monroe County Sheriff’s Lt. Mario Benedetti to its board of directors.
Benedetti brings a record of service, leadership and community engagement to the organization. He began his career with MCSO in 2016 after serving in the U.S. Army, where he was an infantryman with the elite 82nd Airborne Division. During his tenure with MCSO, he has held a wide range of assignments, including road patrol, general investigations, major crimes, road patrol supervision and serving as a sergeant overseeing general investigations.
His professional background reflects not only tactical expertise, but also a deep commitment to public safety, compassion and trauma-informed service. Benedetti expressed heartfelt enthusiasm about joining the board.
“Being a part of an organization that gives back to the community and supports adults and children recovering from trauma is an honor,” he said. “Aside from that, MCSO and Pawsitive Beginnings have always had a great relationship.”
He is a devoted husband and father of two sons, and is widely respected within the Keys for his integrity, leadership and generous spirit — qualities that align with the mission of Pawsitive Beginnings.
