The living room and kitchen were instantly familiar to anyone over 40. The tropical print of the rattan sofa and the round kitchen table and butcher block island were the unmistakable interior of “The Golden Girls.”

The beloved sitcom ran from 1985 to 1992, when Blanche, Rose, Dorothy and Sophia — four older women — shared a house in 1980s Miami Beach and became best friends.

While all four actresses are now deceased, there was more cheesecake to be shared at the kitchen table, more Sicily and St. Olaf stories, more sarcasm and spicy innuendo.

Enter “Golden Girls, the Tribute Show — A Drag Parody” that sold out Key West Theater on March 16 and received glowing reviews.

“It was hilarious; so well done.”

“Fantastic; laugh-out-loud funny. I hope they come back.”

The interactive “Golden Girls” tribute show featured scenes from the show, plus a bingo game with prizes, sing-alongs and mimosas for the Sunday afternoon show. Created and produced by Drag Events Unlimited, the show immediately became an island favorite. The South Florida-based company is owned and operated by drag queens and also produces tribute shows based on “Mean Girls,” “Hocus Pocus” and “The Addams Family.” More information is at dragevents.biz.
