WATERFRONT PLAYHOUSE PRESENTS ‘TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE’ JAN. 15-18

The Waterfront Playhouse continues its Spotlight Series with the intimate play “Tuesdays With Morrie,” running Jan. 15-18.

Performances Jan. 15-17 are at 7:30 p.m.; the Jan. 18 performance is at 2 p.m.

The production marks the second offering in the series that focuses on smaller-scale works that place storytelling and performance at the center of the theatrical experience.

Based on the beloved book by Mitch Albom and adapted for the stage by Albom and Jeffrey Hatcher, “Tuesdays With Morrie” chronicles the true story of the final meetings between a former student and his dying professor as the two explore friendship, mortality, life lessons and the enduring impact of human connection.

The production stars two television, film and Broadway-credited actors: Jim Ortlieb, last seen at the Waterfront in “Stand Up If You’re Here Tonight,” and Scott Lowell, perhaps best known to audiences as Ted on the Showtime hit “Queer as Folk.”

Artistic director Patrick New ensures the play is staged with clarity and restraint, allowing the performances and the story to resonate in an immediate and personal way.

With humor, honesty and compassion, “Tuesdays With Morrie” invites audiences into a shared experience intended to feel profound and warmly familiar. The intimacy of the production reflects the spirit of the Spotlight Series, offering theatre that meets audiences up close and lingers long after the curtain falls.

The Waterfront Playhouse, Key West’s longest-running professional theater, is on Mallory Square. More information is at waterfrontplayhouse.org or 305-294-5015.
