More foster homes are needed in Monroe County from Key Largo to Key West. Due to the limited number of foster families in our county, children in our community who have been abused and neglected have at times had to be placed in foster homes as far away as Broward County. These out of county placements make family visits and reunification very difficult for those most in need of our community’s support.
Foster Parent Training Classes will begin on June 7, 2011 in Tavernier. We are also in need of homes that would be available to provide respite care for foster children to allow the foster parents an evening out or vacation time.
Foster parents can be married, single, and/or have children of their own. They represent parents with diverse backgrounds, lifestyles and income levels. They own their own homes, live in apartments, condos, or trailers. They are working people, full-time caregivers, parents and retirees. They come from every walk of life, but they all have one thing in common. Foster parents provide a safe temporary home for children while they are separated from their families.
