WHO’S RUNNING FOR WHICH OFFICE? MEET THE CANDIDATES FRIDAY, JUNE 12

Hometown will hold a Meet the Candidates event on Friday, June 12 at Tennessee Williams Theatre starting at 5 p.m. CONTRIBUTED

All are invited to meet the candidates running for office in Key West and Monroe County on Friday, June 12 at Tennessee Williams Theatre.

The event is organized by Hometown Key West & Monroe County, a nonprofit and nonpartisan voter education group. Doors open at 5 p.m. for a community and candidate meet-and-greet, with the candidate program beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The free public event gives voters an opportunity to meet qualified candidates before early voting begins on Aug. 3 for the Aug. 18 primary election.

Although the election is a primary, the city of Key West’s and the Monroe County School Board’s nonpartisan races, and races with only two candidates, could be decided in that election.

Hometown will also unveil the official 2026 ballot, which will vary based on a voter’s address and political party affiliation. All Key West voters elect the mayor, but city commissioners are elected only by the voters in each district. County commissioners and school board members are elected by all Monroe County voters.

The event is part of Hometown’s “Civic Power: Election 2026” initiative, a nonpartisan effort to connect voters with credible information about the candidates and issues shaping the future of Key West and Monroe County.

“This is where the 2026 election season truly begins,” said Sheldon Davidson, secretary of the Hometown Key West & Monroe County board of directors. “Residents will have the chance to see the final ballot, meet candidates face-to-face, ask questions and become informed before casting their votes.”

Candidates from races throughout Monroe County have been invited to participate. Attendees will have opportunities to meet candidates, collect campaign literature and learn more about the offices and issues on their ballots.
