Mount Sinai Medical Center has welcomed the Key West family medicine practice of Dr. Brian G. Wagstaff into the health system, keeping care in the same location residents have relied on for more than a decade while adding the diagnostic and specialty resources of Mount Sinai.

The office at 1501 Government Road, formerly Key West Urgent Care, becomes Mount Sinai’s fourth location in Key West and fifth in Monroe County. Wagstaff continues to care for his established patients there and is accepting new ones.

Since 2015, Wagstaff has been treating families, older adults and local workers out of the same office. His focus on preventive care, geriatrics and wound care serves a county where one in four residents is 65 or older, a higher share than Florida overall. He also provides occupational medicine for area employers, including workers’ compensation injury care, pre-employment physicals and DOT examinations.

Wagstaff is board certified in family medicine. He earned his medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, completed his family medicine residency at the University of Maryland and completed a fellowship in academic family medicine at Thomas Jefferson University.

“My patients are my neighbors, and most of them I have known for years,” said Wagstaff. “I see them at the grocery store, at the marina, at choral rehearsal. That is the best part of practicing here. What changes with Mount Sinai Medical Center is the range of care I can offer them close to home.”

For patients, the change is what sits behind the exam room. Through its Key West and Marathon locations, Mount Sinai offers advanced diagnostic imaging including CT scans, screening and diagnostic mammograms, X-rays, ultrasounds, bone density testing and EKGs, along with a growing network of specialties including cardiology, urology, vascular care, pulmonology, general surgery, electrophysiology and women’s health.

Patients who need specialty care are referred within Mount Sinai rather than starting over somewhere new.

“Our priority in the Keys is investing in this community, not competing with it,” said Gino R. Santorio, president and CEO of Mount Sinai Medical Center. “Continuity of care is difficult to build and easy to lose. By welcoming a practice residents already trust, the physician stays, the patients stay and the resources available to both expand considerably.”

The addition follows Mount Sinai’s April 2025 opening of a 5,000-square-foot primary care, walk-in, and diagnostic center at 2506 N. Roosevelt Blvd. Mount Sinai now has 33 physicians across its Keys locations, and in 2025 alone it provided $6 million in uncompensated care. In Monroe County, 13.4% of residents under 65 have no health insurance.
