CANES ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT RECOGNIZES THREE-SPORT ATHLETES

The Upper Keys Weekly is proud to partner with the Coral Shores’ Athletic Department to highlight this week’s “Canes Sports Standouts.” Recipients are chosen on qualifications of academic excellence, academic standing and community involvement. We thank our future leaders and the CSHS Athletic Department for allowing us to share a little “Hurricane Pride.”

EMMA KOST

Having completed her cheerleading and soccer seasons as a senior, the three-sport athlete enters her senior year as captain of the tennis team. Kost says soccer is her favorite spot having played since she was 4 years of age. “It has always been a huge part of my life,” she said. “I love being a part of a team.” She’s received the Coach’s Award” in cheerleading and “Best Defender” her junior year in soccer. This year, Kost was named “Offensive Player of the Year.” Her favorite memory was a comeback in the final minutes of the district championship soccer match in her junior year. Kost said her athletic experiences have taught her not only how to be a team player, but also to be a leader without being too controlling.

ALI WOLTANKSI

Having completed her senior year in cross country and weightlifting, Woltanski enters her final season as a member of the varsity track team. She said her favorite sport is cross country because of the team dynamic. “In fact, I’ve met almost all my best friends through the sport,” she said. “I plan to continue running long distances for as long as we stay in contact, which sure will be forever.” Woltanski entered her senior year as captain of cross country, weightlifting and track teams. As a junior, Woltanski qualified for regionals in cross country. She also won districts, placed fourth in regionals and 16th in states in weightlifting this year. Her most memorable moment is hitting 125 pounds in the clean-and-jerk during weightlifting regionals. “I never in my life thought I’d be able to lift so much, or make it to states for any sport,” she said.
