The epicenter was reported approximately 17 miles northwest of Corralillo, Cuba.
The website of the USGS offers a “did you feel it” tracking system. By 8:01 a.m., 8 Keys residents had responded positively — 4 in Key West, 3 in Big Pine Key and 1 in Key Colony Beach.
Historically, most earthquake epicenters are located on the southeast side of Cuba. However, the three most recent earthquakes have all occurred on the north side of the island. Cuba lies on the Caribbean Plate underlying Central America and the Caribbean Sea.
