The 2022 Marathon Meltdown is in the books, and it’s finally time to celebrate our winners. For 11 challenging weeks, 39 contestants, split among 13 teams, watched their diets and amped up their exercises in an effort to shed some extra weight just in time for summer. Below are the final standings for the 2022 Meltdown, ranked by the sum of all team members’ body weight losses (in percentages). Congratulations to all our contestants, and see you next year!

70 – points dropped by all contestants on the BMI scale. For reference, that’s enough of a drop to go from “obese” to “normal” on the BMI scale more than 13 times.

Alex Rickert
Alex Rickert made the perfectly natural career progression from dolphin trainer to newspaper editor in 2021 after freelancing for Keys Weekly while working full time at Dolphin Research Center. A resident of Marathon since 2015, he fell in love with the Florida Keys community by helping multiple organizations and friends rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Irma. An avid runner, actor, and spearfisherman, he spends as much of his time outside of work on or under the sea having civil disagreements with sharks.
