A PAWSITIVE BEGINNINGS’ PROGRAM EXPANDS

Ridley the fox. CONTRIBUTED

Hi friends! Reef the fox here with your weekly “Reef’s Report.” We are in the home stretch to 2024 and we wouldn’t want to end the year without some Reef-worthy news.

Little Ridley fox, who has become quite the local celebrity with his ambassador status for our animal-assisted therapy program, has also become quite the cantankerous teenager. So, for that reason, I have arranged for his trouble puffs to come off Friday, Dec. 15. Our amazing friends at Whiskers and Paws will be performing the surgery. Speaking of Whiskers and Paws, last week they broke the 2,000 mark with the number of community cats they have spayed and neutered in the Upper Keys. How incredible is that? They are the definition of living in the solution and have truly gone above and beyond to make things happen to help control the feral cat population.

I also overheard my mother on the phone a few days ago and she told me I can break the news here. Our animal-assisted therapy program is expanding, once again, and has added Wesley House to the list of amazing organizations in the Keys that help children and adults. Mom and Ridley will be visiting the Inez Martin Child Development Center next month to speak to the children about us foxes, our stories and how despite our start in life, we are happy, healthy and thriving now.

I, for one, am so excited that we are able to offer this unique service to those who need it in Monroe County, and that Monroe County is so unique that this program has been so widely embraced and supported.

Lastly, and this is some big news; Pawsitive Beginnings will be opening up to the public for sanctuary visits starting January 2024. I know this is something my mother has thought about doing for a while and with the success of our animal assisted therapy program, more interest in meeting the foxes is being generated, so everything seems to be happening right on time. I will let you all know when the link goes public to be able to book your visit and I’m fairly certain my mother is coming up with a discount code for Monroe County residents as a show of appreciation for all of your support.

So, on that note, make sure to keep an eye on pawsitivebeginnings.org for the latest on all things fox.

Until next time, Reef, over and out!

Reef the Fox

Reef is missing toes on his front, right paw and the tip of his tail is missing due to injuries sustained in his short time on the fur farm. Reef arrived at Key Largo on May 6, 2021 by Nicole Navarro, of Pawsitive Beginnings Inc.
