ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Brooklyn Allen

What do you enjoy about being on the track team? Track is a very competitive sport, not just because you’re racing others, but also because you’re racing yourself. I love that throughout the season you are able to see how much you’re improving. The work you’re putting in definitely shows and pays off.

How long have you been running on the team? This is my first year on Marathon’s track team; in fact, it’s my first year doing track at all and I have no regrets. I originally thought about doing track, but was hesitant because all I’ve ever done was cheerleading and I knew it takes lots of effort and stamina. But I decided to try it and I love it!

Describe one of your best moments in athletics. One of my favorite memories is from when my friend Elena and I were competing in the high jump field event, seeing who could get to a certain maximum height first. I jumped the height and afterward the look on her face was hilarious. Right after my jump she jumped the same height, so practicing together made us better in a way.

Coach Martin says … “Always do your best, and push yourself.” He encourages us by keeping us focused, but at the same time allows us to keep having fun while training.
