Monroe County residents are invited to roll up their sleeves and learn the basics of composting during a free, hands-on workshop, Compost Made Easy, on Sunday, Jan. 4, from 11 a.m. to noon, at Burton Memorial United Methodist Church, 93001 Overseas Highway in Tavernier.

Hosted by Monroe County Recycling Coordinator Melody Tuschel in partnership with Soil Mate, the workshop will walk participants through simple, practical ways to turn everyday food scraps into nutrient-rich compost that improves soil health while reducing landfill waste. The session is designed for beginners and anyone interested in easy, low-cost strategies to reduce household waste and support a healthier environment.

“Composting plays a key role in waste reduction efforts across the Florida Keys, keeping organic material out of landfills while creating a valuable resource for gardens and landscaping,” said Tuschel.
