HEALING DEN CONSTRUCTION UNDERWAY AT PAWSITIVE BEGINNINGS IN KEY LARGO

Hi friends! Reef the fox here with your weekly “Reef’s Report.” In case you missed our big announcement two weeks ago, Pawsitive Beginnings in Key Largo received a huge grant to construct a therapy room at the sanctuary where our friends from Kinder in the Keys and the Florida Keys Children’s Shelter can have private, offsite sessions with their clients.

“The Human-Animal Alliance Healing Den” construction is well underway and is expected to be completed by the end of June. How amazing is that? I am going to be in charge of planning the ribbon-cutting ceremony, I hope. I think I’ll get some help from my friends at the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce since I hear they already have those cool big scissors.

Kai the fox has been quite the busy bee these days. He had the chance to visit students at Ocean Studies Charter School last week and he was a hit. I hear the kids asked so many great questions and were on their best behavior. I know my mom really likes being able to talk to kids about what we do here. It plants a seed for the younger generation to speak out against the fur trade and the exotic pet trade. Remember friends, foxes are not pets. Wild animals belong in the wild. Period.

We have a fundraiser happening now; our very first online 50/50 raffle is live. Tickets are $50 and only 100 tickets will be sold. Your chances of winning $2,500 is pretty darn good. You can go to our website, pawsitivebeginnings.org and click on the pop-up link that shows up as soon as you get to the site to get yours today. The raffle will close on Monday, May 27 at 9 a.m and the winner will be announced the following day.

Now for a fun event happening next weekend. Our friends at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center are hosting a movie night on Saturday, May 15 at 7:15 p.m. Join the bird center at their sanctuary for a sweet, clumsy family film about saving owls. “Hoot” is rated PG-13.

All ages are welcome. They will provide drinks and popcorn. Bring camping chairs, blankets and some bug spray. Entry is free but donations are always appreciated.

Anywho, that’s all for this week. Until next time, Reef, over and out!

Reef the Fox
Reef was born on a fur farm on or around March 28, 2021. He was able to be rescued when his mother and siblings started to reject him. Reef is missing toes on his front, right paw and the tip of his tail is missing due to injuries sustained in his short time on the fur farm. Reef arrived at Key Largo on May 6, 2021 by Nicole Navarro, of Pawsitive Beginnings Inc.
