Key West golf edges Marathon in tight match at Ocean Reef

Key West’s Lexi Finigan is the player to beat this season. Finigan outshot teammate Mary Alice Davila by one stroke last week at Ocean Reef.

Monroe County golfers made their way to Key Largo on Sept. 9 for a match at the prestigious Ocean Reef Club, where Key West edged Marathon by four strokes in boys team competition.

The Conchs combined for a score of 187 to Marathon’s 191, while Coral Shores did not have enough golfers competing to register a team score.

Key West’s Jakub Krytinar earned medalist honors with the low round of the day, shooting a 38. Teammate Geo Twyman was just one stroke back with a 39, giving the Conchs the top two spots on the leaderboard.

Marathon’s Roco Piscetello led the Dolphins with a 43 to finish third, while Coral Shores’ Scout Oliver carded a 45 for fourth. Marathon teammates Cullen Coleman-Sayer and Emmett Merryman each shot a 46, followed by Key West’s Jack Massey with a 48. Conchs Sawyer Hendrix and LB Bennett each finished at 53, while Marathon’s Ethan Wohlers rounded out the top 10 with a 56.

On the girls side, Key West was the only school with enough golfers competing to post a team score. Conch Lexi Finigan led the field with a 52, narrowly edging teammate Mary Alice Davila, who shot a 53. Key West’s Charlize Lopez finished at 55.

Marathon’s Makenna Haines led the Dolphins with a 58, followed by Coral Shores’ Woodsley Franklin at 61 and Marathon’s Elleanna Mowry at 63. Key West’s Stella Tutlewski finished with a 65.
