No matter how many individuals appear in the pages of each edition of Keys Weekly, there are always so many more of our community members who deserve to be recognized. In an effort to shine a spotlight on more of the incredible individuals who live and work in these islands, Keys Weekly is proud to present our Neighbor of the Week feature, dedicated to celebrating a community member with each issue.
Our neighbor of the week is Danny Gallagher, who is a host at Sparky’s Landing. He grew up in Bellmawr, New Jersey and moved to Marathon about a year before Hurricane Irma hit. Most nights you’ll find him behind the host stand; otherwise, he’s hanging out at home or driving around town.
DANNY GALLAGHER
Sparky’s Landing
How long have you been in the Keys and what brought you here? After moving down from New Jersey with my family in 2016, I’ve been living in the Keys for almost 10 years now.
What is your favorite thing about living in the Keys? Definitely the easily visible sunrises and sunsets. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a picture that I didn’t like of either.
What’s a local business you couldn’t live without? I’m supposed to only choose one business, but I refuse to choose between Marathon Bagel and Conch Custard. They both have a bunch of flavors and can easily boost my mood.
What is your greatest regret? My greatest regret would definitely have to be not setting a path or goals in the past and just floating along.
What’s a simple pleasure that brings you joy? Music. Easily, music. My mood is very easily influenced by the sounds of my surroundings.
What was in the last Amazon package that arrived? My last Amazon package was a screen protector for my phone. Obviously I did not buy the right ones because somehow the protector cracked while my phone was in my pocket.
What’s one of your all-time favorite movie quotes? “Hey you guuuys!” – from Sloth in “The Goonies”
