MISSION FISHIN’ STEPS UP FOR SPECIAL NEEDS SWITLIK STUDENTS

Stanley Switlik Elementary School will soon add an accessible playground installation for kids to enjoy at recess, thanks to the generosity of the nonprofit Mission Fishin’. Created in 2014 under founder Tony Davis, the organization is dedicated to providing memorable fishing trips and other marine adventures for special needs children, foster children and their families who would not otherwise be afforded these opportunities. For the past two years, the nonprofit has been the official beneficiary of the Marathon Premier Sailfish Tournament under founder Katie Lewis, dedicated to raising charitable funds through a tournament each April.

And on Feb. 26, both organizations’ ties to the Marathon community came full circle as Davis presented a check for $27,275 to Stanley Switlik principal Linda Diaz to fund the purchase of the five-panel playground feature. Registration for the third annual sailfish tournament, which will again benefit Mission Fishin’ on April 19 and 20, will open Wednesday, March 6.
