Kids are a simple lot. With no retirement plans to choose from or funny noises in their car to worry about, they tend to focus on uncomplicated joys such as…will I get that Pokémon game for Christmas? And it’s darn refreshing.
With that in mind, Keys Weekly — with principal Kelly Mangel’s permission — barged into Treasure Village Montessori’s teacher Lisa Bauer’s kindergarten/first grade class in Islamorada during craft time and asked all her students this one question: What do you want for Christmas? And boy, were they ready with their answers. For those who grew up in the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, you might be surprised to see some familiar brand names on their wish lists. And this year’s hot item that kids want to see under the tree and parents can’t find? Like the Cabbage Patch Kids back in the day? An item called Gabby’s Dollhouse. We checked. It’s sold out on Amazon.

Tyler, age 7 Hot Wheels tracks. 
Stella, age 7 Nintendo Switch. It has different games you get to choose, like Pokémon and Mario. 
Silvio, age 6 Star Wars Droid figures. 
Tatum, age 6 Gabby’s Dollhouse. It’s real life with cat characters. On Amazon. It’s so much money. 
Rivka, age 6 I’m not sure. Maybe I need to get a new bike. I can ride a size 20. 
Riley, age 6 A microphone. I usually sing with it to my family sometimes. 
Nicholas, age 7 I know Russian! I want a big Army airplane. 
Delaney, age 7 Sparkly clothes. 
Ellie, age 6 A snow globe with dolphins. 
Flynt, age 7 A basketball hoop. And an Indominus Rex. I already have an Indominus Rex, but it’s too small. 
Greyson, age 6 A video game system and video games. That’s all I want. Oh, and a Batman float for the water. And Rudolph stuff.

Journey, age 7 An ICEE maker, so I can make a Coca-Cola slushie like Tom Thumb’s.
