An 82-year-old Palm City man died Wednesday after he was found unresponsive in gulf waters approximately 5 miles off Mile Marker 60.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said Clarence Shawver was snorkeling when he was found at approximately 10:45 a.m., taken ashore, and then to Fishermen’s Hospital in Marathon where he was pronounced dead.
Foul play is not believed to be a factor in the incident. Autopsy results are pending.
On Thursday, the sheriff’s office said an adult male snorkeling in the waters near MM 74 died after losing consciousness around 8:30 a.m. He was transported to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier where he was pronounced dead. Identification is pending notification of next of kin. Autopsy results are pending.
