The Monroe County State Attorney’s Office announced Key West resident Jennifer Ann Brasfield was found guilty by a jury of criminal use of personal identification information and fraudulent use of a credit card, both third-degree felonies under Florida law.

Evidence presented at trial by Key West Police Sgt. Thomas Stutz showed that Brasfield, 36, used the victim’s personal information to create an online Amazon account and then used the victim’s credit card information for billing purposes without his permission. Through that account, she completed five separate transactions totaling over $500.

The case was tried before Judge Mark Wilson in Key West. After hearing testimony and reviewing evidence, the jury deliberated for approximately 40 minutes before returning guilty verdicts on both counts.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2026, in Key West.

The case was prosecuted by assistant state attorneys Carter Reeves and Madeline Thompson.

Under Florida law, each count carries a maximum sentence of up to five years in state prison, along with potential probation, restitution to the victim and additional financial penalties

“This case reflects a clear and intentional misuse of another person’s personal and financial information,” said Chief Assistant State Attorney Joseph Mansfield. When individuals take advantage of someone’s trust and exploit their personal information, it has real consequences. We remain committed to protecting victims of financial fraud and holding offenders accountable under the law.”
