
The Key West Garden Club at Fort West Martello in Key West will host the annual “It’s for the Birds” event to benefit Key West Wildlife Center, which rescues and rehabilitates injured birds.
The event takes place from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20 and includes food, drinks, educational birds and informational displays about the center’s work with native wildlife, as well as a silent auction, a “wine wall” and more. A handmade quilt by Key West resident Jessica Argyle will also be raffled off.

The nonprofit provides rescue and rehabilitative care to over 1,400 wild birds annually. It also provides rescue services for sea turtles, tortoises and marine and land mammals. The center provides 24-hour emergency rescue services for wildlife in Key West and the Lower Keys. Its focus is on rescuing, rehabilitating and returning its avian patients to the wild. The staff works closely with other local and regional rescue groups to provide rehabilitation for non-avian species.
The center is state and federally permitted to rescue and rehabilitate sick or injured native wildlife. It does not remove healthy land mammals, including raccoons and opossums, from homes or businesses. The center is not permitted and does not remove non-native species from homes or businesses, including green iguanas, parrots, Muscovy ducks or other non-native reptiles, birds or amphibians.The center does not rescue cats or dogs. The Florida Keys SPCA handles all pets, cats and dogs and non-native species.
