FROM THE FAMOUS FOX: CELEBRATION OF LIFE FOR UPPER KEYS RADIO PERSONALITY SET FOR JULY 24

Joey Naples with Nicole Navarro, of Pawsitive Beginnings Inc., and Coral. CONTRIBUTED

Hi friends! Reef the fox here with this week’s “Reef’s Report.”

So I am shocked that I didn’t get an influx of emails asking how I was doing with the announcement of a new baby fox coming to live with us. I guess you all think I’m going to be just fine? We will see, I guess. Mom goes to central Florida on Aug. 11 to meet the transporter from Save A Fox corporation. Little Kai gets to fly on a plane from Minnesota to Florida. Pretty lucky little guy, huh? If you missed the story on our newest member of the fox family, visit last week’s column at keysweekly.com.

Let’s get back to some fun events happening around town, shall we? On Thursday, July 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Islamorada, the Morada Way Art Walk is happening. Enjoy a relaxing evening perusing local fine art, imbibing local craft beer and wine, listening to music and seeing your favorite people.

Then on Sunday, July 24, starting at 2 p.m. at the OceanView Inn and Sports Pub will be the celebration of life for our friend, Joey Naples. I never got to meet Joey but my little sister, Coral. did. Joey was a friend to all here in the Florida Keys and was a great advocate for all animals. He regularly had shelter and rescue organizations on air to talk about events and fundraisers. Joey was definitely the “King of Cool.”

Naples rocked the Upper Keys with Clear Channel Media and then with the Florida Keys Media family, which he’d been with since 2014. Before that, the transplant from West Palm Beach served as senior director for an NBC television station for 25 years.

Naples loved his life and loved his role here in the Keys. From his on-air show, “Joey in the Midday,” to his remote broadcasts at the OceanView Pub and the Sandbar at Whale Harbor, Naples was just a friend to everyone he met.

My mom, Nicole, had this to say about Joey. “Throughout the years, Joey Naples was always a friend to me and an even bigger friend to the animals in our community.  Anytime I needed to get the word out about an event, animals needing adoption, or most recently last year, bringing Coral to introduce her to his Sun 103 listeners, he said, ‘Come on down.’”

Please head on down this Sunday and go have some fun; it’s what Joey would have wanted, I have no doubt.

That’s all for this week. Until next time, Reef, over and out.
