Well this past week the wind has been a little puffy, but if you read last week’s article, you would know that sometimes a little wind is what it takes to stir things up a bit.
That’s exactly what it did.
The cooler temps have definitely fired up the snapper fishing; in fact, it has been outstanding!
The yellow tail snapper bite in 60-90 feet of water was awesome. We nearly limited out in only a couple of hours!
We wish Danny the best of luck as he is fighting an illness that requires heavy medication and is debilitating at best.
While we were pleased with our snapper results, it just did not seem like enough for a man who loves to fish but would be unable to do so for the next year due to grueling drug treatment. So, we moved to another spot – a Best Bet secret spot!
Almost instantaneously, we were hooked up with large mangrove snapper. Then the bite went ballistic! A big (the thing was 8 feet long and easily 250 pounds!) bull shark chased a big mangrove snapper right to the boat. Danny was blown away by the shark’s maneuverability as it chased the snapper on our line.
I was equally blown away by the nearly dozen cobias that came up came up from the depths with the shark; that’s when it really got crazy!
With a quick cast of live bait, we hooked one, then two and three…we ended up releasing six cobia! With a cooler full of snapper for dinner and the freezer, we (thankfully) never saw the shark again.
What a great day on the water with a great friend Danny Cohen – Team Daco!
Best Bet for the week ahead: Head out to the patch reefs for great mangrove snapper and grouper action.
