Four elected officials in the Florida Keys formally announced on Wednesday their intention to seek reelection in the 2024 election.

Joyce Griffin, the Monroe County supervisor of elections, announced that Property Appraiser Scott Russell, Tax Collector Sam Steele, District 3 County Commissioner Jim Scholl and District 1 County Commissioner Craig Cates all filed paperwork on Wednesday, Jan. 3 to seek reelection.

“This means they have officially announced their intent and can start raising money and getting petitions signed,” Griffin told the Keys Weekly.

Other previously announced countywide candidates include Ron Saunders, a Democrat, and Sherri Hodies, a Republican, who both are running for Griffin’s Supervisor of Elections post. Griffin announced more than a year ago that she is retiring and won’t seek reelection.

Yvette Mira-Talbott is running for the School Board District 2 seat being vacated by Andy Griffiths, who won’t seek reelection.

Jose Peixoto is running for the county commission District 5 seat currently held by Holly Raschein.

And in Key West, Danise “Dee Dee” Henriquez is running for mayor. Current Mayor Teri Johnston has not yet announced whether she intends to seek another term. The general election, which includes the presidential race, takes place Nov. 5. For more information on each candidate and the elections, visit keyselections.org
