Those arriving for a Halloween costume run at Marathon Community Park on Saturday morning were quickly instructed to head to an alternate location at Sombrero Beach following the discovery of a deceased individual near the park’s restroom facilities.

Early signs point to a suicide as the cause of death, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office officials and run organizers told the Weekly around 2 p.m. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. Additional details regarding the incident will be released following further investigation by MCSO’s Major Crimes division.

If you or someone you know are experiencing suicidal thoughts, please call the 24-hour Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988. The lifeline provides a national network of local crisis centers that provide confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress.

The Keys Weekly will update this developing story as more details become available.
