DRIVING BY POSITIVITY

Letter to the Editor

The decision has been made to open the Keys to visitors June 1. As these people travel to the Keys to enjoy the islands that we love, or simply to escape the pandemic in their area, it would be in all our interests to encourage good behavior.

I am recommending that the electronic signs (variable message signs) above the Overseas Highway display positive messages regarding protecting our health and sanctuary’s environment. The Keys’ government buildings, chambers of commerce, visitors centers, banks and businesses could also post these positive messages on signs and billboards starting in south Homestead, Key Largo, Tavernier, Islamorada, Marathon, Big Pine, all the way down to Key West.

Some examples include:

  1.  “Keep the Keys Safe.”
  2. “We love the Florida Keys.” (NOTE TO DESIGNER: CAN WE INSTALL HEART EMJOI IN PLACE FOR LOVE.)
  3. “Keys Pride”
  4. “Love and Protect the Keys.”
  5. “Enjoy and Keep the Keys Safe.”
