FROM THE FAMOUS FOX: A VISIT FROM AN OLD FRIEND & AN UPCOMING FUNDRAISER

Hi friends! Reef the fox here with this week’s “Reef’s Report.” So here’s a story for you.

I’m sure you all know my friend, Jimmy; he’s a big shot here at the Upper Keys Weekly. He put me on the front page of the paper when I came here last year; he gave me this very column you are reading right now. He is my bro, or so you would think. So time just goes by so fast these days and I didn’t realize it had been one whole year since Jimmy came to see me. Can you believe it?

My mom invited him to stop by the other day and he did, but here’s the thing: I ignored Jimmy. Yep, that’s right, you read that correctly. I totally ignored him because how rude was it to not come see me for one whole year? I know, I know, life happens, people get busy, but come on now. Foxes have feelings too. I’m sure Jimmy will think twice before he goes another year without coming to see me.

Anywho, my mom is planning our first real fundraiser for the community on Dec. 10. It’s going to be so cool. Our friends at the Key Largo Princess Glass Bottom Boat have donated the whole boat to us for the evening for a sunset cruise fundraiser. How fun is that? So mom is looking for sponsors for the event. We’ve already had some really amazing people sign up, so if you want to help out too, just shoot me an email and I’ll pass it along to my mom: reef@pawsitivebeginnings.org.

On to the news: Did you hear about those two men from Miami that kidnapped a Key Deer? According to the MCSO Facebook page, “The men stated they initially thought the deer was dead but realized the deer was still alive, so they decided to take it to a veterinarian in Miami for treatment. Both men stated they never called 911, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The men who admitted to putting the deer in the vehicle were arrested.  The FWC charged Yoankis Hernandez Pena, 38, and Andres Leon Valdes, 45, with cruelty to animals and taking, possessing or selling a federally designated endangered or threatened species.”

Geesh, some people.

On Friday, July 29, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Key Largo Art Gallery they are bringing back their “Last Friday Gallery Night.” It’s been two years since they’ve had one and this Friday they are celebrating their 17th anniversary. So head on out there to support the gallery.

That’s all for this week. Check us out at pawsitivebeginnings.org, shoot me an email if you want to sponsor our event in December, and most importantly, stay safe out there friends.

Until next time, Reef, over and out!
